Smolko, 63, died Sunday morning, May 21, 2017, at his residence. Al was born Feb. 9, 1954, in New Castle, Pa., a son of the late Albert and Theresa Gregg Smolko. Raised in Struthers, Al was a 1973 graduate of Struthers High School. He was a steelworker for LTV, Republic Steel, and WCI Steel Company. Al leaves his wife, the former Sandra Lee Evans, whom he married Aug. 6, 1987; four sons, James (Christy) Smolko of Pittsburgh, Shawn (Liezel) Smolko of Manila, Philippines, Steven Smolko of Palm Bay, Fla., and Robert Smolko of Poland; one daughter, Erin (Patrick) Mulligan of Youngstown; one brother, Thomas (Caroline) Smolko of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Cindy (Dan) Bartlett of Boardman; and 10 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Duchak. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Lowellville Chapel. JOSEPH FRANCIS MASCARELLA

Joe was born April 24, 1961, in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Mary (Muscatell) Mascarella. He was a 1979 graduate of Ursuline High School. Joe worked for Easco Aluminum Corp. in Girard for 17 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Joe loved to travel, having gone to Europe several times. He would stop at the convent in Rome and visit the nuns and went to visit family in his travels. Joe had a green thumb and loved to garden. In his spare time he loved going to casinos, auctions, listening to music, and collecting many things. Joe is survived by his mother, Mary Mascarella of Lowellville; three brothers, Thomas Mascarella of Jamestown, David (Phyllis) Mascarella of Lowellville, and George Mascarella of Lowellville; and one sister, Margie Cunningham of Northfield; nieces and nephews Margaret, Katie, Rocco, David, and Ashtyn; and great-nieces and nephew Sabrina, Devon, Angelina, Alivia, and Louis. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Thomas Mascarella; grandparents, Joseph and Minnie Muscatell and Rocco and Venerina Mascarella; and one sister-in-law, Sherry Mascarella. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Lowellville Chapel, 244 McGill St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
